New York grasslands and wetlands - threatened habitats
New
York has more forest now than it did 100 years ago. The regrowth of
forest cover has meant the loss of grasslands. Add to that development
and changing agricultural practices and you have a
problem.

BALD
EAGLES - Populations are on the increase, but a national survey keeps tabs on winter birds because habitat loss and other threats still exist.
SHORT-EARED
OWL - An endangered grassland bird whose breeding population is way down in New York, but who can still be seen fairly easily as a winter visitor.
SENECA
MEADOWS WETLAND PRESERVE - An ambitious habitat restoration project that not only provides wetland and grassland to wildife, but also produces native seeds for the nearby Montezuma Wetland Complex.
